Introducing Georgia to the pets

Some animals accept the new additions to your family better then others. Some love having the kids around, some even become super protective of the new babies. This is how our animals reacted:

You can call it bad timing or you can call it a very dramatic reaction but this is how our time with a new born & pets went. So we've got 2 dogs and a cat. Holly the cat has dealt with the change in dynamics the best out of the lot. She hasn't changed one bit and deals very well with having hair pulled out and her tail tugged on. The dogs on the other hand were a very different story!

My little dog, Mocha she is 8 years old. The week before I went into hospital Mocha developed a UTI, so we gave her antibiotics. When I got home from hospital I knew she wasn't right still so Mark took her back to the vet and it turned out she had bladder stones. So $2000 later we had a dog with a bucket on her head and a bag full of pills to give her, all with a fresh new born to also look after. Dramatic reaction to a baby or coincidence?

Our other old boy Pyro, he is 13 years old, he also didn't do well to the new addition. Georgia was about a month old and one day he had his first seizure. It was very scary and horrible to watch. He now has them every 4 to 6 weeks and is on medication to try make them less regular. The vet sadly says it is a brain tumour and is something that can't be fixed.

I am aware these things happening to the dogs is just very bad timing for us with a baby. But even with these things happening to them they haven't taken a liking to their new rolls as guard dogs to Georgia. They aren't kid loving animals. But they are good with her in the sense if she comes close to them they just move away. Would I leave them alone with Georgia? Definitely not! Even if they did absolutely love her I wouldn't trust them. Never trust your pets with your babies!!

We have tried our best to encourage them to like her even a little bit but Georgia is a very grabby kind of kid when it comes to animals and I just don't trust that they will respond well if she grabs them and hurts them a little bit. We do give the dogs love and attention but it isn't as much as they used to get. They do like to hang out with one another & they both are pretty old now and just sleep all the time.

We love our animals to bits and would hate not having them in our family but geez having no pets would have made the new born stage a lot easier to handle! We will keep working on them and one day they might actually be happy to sit with her for a little cuddle!
