Lauren's Ear Infections Part 3 (her recovery)

It has been 2 weeks now since Lauren had her grommets put in and her adenoid's removed. So I thought I would share how her recovery is going.

The afternoon after her operation and for the few days after she was one sleepy kid! It wasn't hard to get her to have 2 big naps during the day and she slept well through the night, which was fantastic because she was also battling a cold at the same time. So everyone in this household were doing a little happy dance.

We noticed her hearing had improved instantly. She has become a lot more responsive to sounds and voices. She now smiles sweetly when she hears new noises but can sometimes become upset by them as well. When she sleeps I always have white noise playing in her room which I have discovered was a waste of time before grommets because she couldn't hear it! When I first turned it on for her post op she was fascinated by the soft rain sounds filling her room.

2 Days post op Lauren took her first steps! We nearly cried with happiness to see her be able to finally walk. She is such a strong kid and if her balance wasn't compromised I think she would have started to walk a lot earlier. Before grommets she also used to rock her head from side to side when she crawled, as cute as it was she has now stopped doing that, which I think was a balance related thing again.

Lauren's fine motor skills have improved dramatically. You used to be able to see that it would take a lot of concentration for her to pick things up where as now it is just an automatic response. Before hand when she would eat food she would grab handfuls of what was in front of her and palm them into her face with the hopes that some would get into her mouth. Now she picks up one thing at a time, with ease, and puts it into her mouth, she finally eats like a lady! For example she will now pick up one pea at a time and eat it without missing her mouth.

Her speech is still the same but she is a lot more 'chatty' these days. You might not be able to understand the baby talk but it sure is cute hearing her make so many more sounds. She has always been a quiet little thing, unless she is hungry!

For us we've been really happy with the decision to have this done for Lauren. If this is a path you are thinking of going down for your little one do your research before hand to make sure you are happy with your doctor and your choice to go ahead. From my perspective it has been such a great move, I feel like Lauren is going to start hitting loads of milestones now, there is no stopping her.
