The not so nice sunset

It's so nice being in your perfect little bubble that is your new bundle of joy, that turns your family of 2 into 3. We thought she was absolutely perfect in every way right from the tip of her hair to the ends of her toes. Those first smiles she gave us made the sleepless nights & wearing clothes with that constant vomit smell so worth it.

I took Georgia in for her 8 week check up with our local health nurse. I thought we would walk in there and she would tell me my baby is perfect and I'm doing perfectly as a mum, I even considered she may give me a gold star for all the awesomeness that my little family was doing!
Everything was going great all the checks were coming in great, her measurements were perfect, she then checked her eyes and did the ever so worrying 'Hmmm'.

She said her eyes look like she is always looking down, which I never really noticed, because you know, those 'my baby is perfect goggles' you have on, that make you only see that your baby looks totally adorable and perfect in every way. I did think she looked 'surprised' pretty often but we just thought it was cute and funny. She then did some ringing around to her other health nurse friends and said it could be a condition called sun setting. She said 'it is nothing to worry about, but maybe see your GP for a second opinion'.

So I went home thinking she said don't worry so I didn't worry to much. I told the hubby about it then we both made the mistake of googling it. I went into denial mode, stopped googling it and said nope Georgia doesn't have it, she perfect, there is nothing wrong with her FULL STOP! But Mark is the opposite to me, he went into ask google overdrive and started to stress BIG TIME! And then he was telling me his findings, then I started to stress BIG TIME! We rushed into the GP and he was amazing with us he wasn't worried but he did refer us to a specialist and he made it urgent, not for Georgia's sake I don't think, Pretty sure he made it urgent before either of us had a heart attack.

From what we found on  Dr Google was Sun setting is a condition where the eyes look like they are constantly looking down, and in some extreme cases you can barely even see the
eye ball. It can be an indication that there is pressure on the brain, which will also cause an enlarged head.

We got into a specialist the next week and he checked her out & said if she had the condition she would be constantly crying and would never sleep, like at all. He did all the checks he needed and she passed! No sun setting condition thank goodness! He said her eyes may be a little lazy and it's something she will grow out of with time. She is now 7 months old, she still has it a little bit but nothing like it was.

That stress you feel when someone tells you your perfect tiny human could possibly have something wrong with them is the most heart breaking and stressful thing I've experienced. Thankfully this ended with fantastic news for us, I can't even begin to imagine how I would have coped otherwise.
