Discovering how to do Christmas

Before children Christmas was easy, you would go to a family members house and eat until you could barely breathe then either try to stay afloat in a pool or lay on a couch feeling like you were going to explode from all the food you just consumed. Then once you could move again get in the car and go to the next families house to do it all again. It was easy and relaxing, add your own children into the story and things change.

Last year we just had Georgia for Christmas, Lauren was still a bun in the oven, taking up precious food consuming room. We did 3 Christmas meals in the one day, not to mention already having a Christmas eve party at our place the day before. All 3 of us were beyond exhausted so when we got to Christmas dinner we were over it and not fun company at all. Georgia took days to get back to her normal self.

So this Christmas we decided to stay home and told the families to come to us. We still had our Christmas eve party with our family and friends, which ended up being a late night so Christmas morning we started the day already tired. This made it hard as both girls were extra whingy and clingy and for their day naps neither of them slept well. Which made trying to prepare food and tidy in between pretty much impossible. Our idea of staying home for the day was a good idea we just executed it poorly. I think for a big day like that preparation is the key, Having foods premade or chopped ready to go would have made it run a lot smoother. That way even with the girls being extra needy we could have given them our full attention and known that the food was organised and our guests would have that oh so comforting food coma feeling.

Another thing I've learned is the key to a good day is to make sure that the kids get an adequate amount of sleep, which both Christmas's that didn't happen. SO for next year hopefully we can perfect the art of 'Christmasing with children!'

I hope you had a lovely Christmas day with loved ones and I hope your babies did well with all the festivities going on around them! This will be my last Blog for 2018. For 2019 I have plans for this tiny section of the internet that I call my own, you will be seeing a lot more on here, so keep your eyes peeled!
